Small, envelope size, and lightweight, family Type 8776B are general-purpose vibration measuring accelerometers with a side connector.
The Kistler 8776B is a lightweight, general-purpose IEPE accelerometer with a side connector, in ranges from ±50 to ±500 g. It weighs about 3 g, has a threshold down to 0.00021 grms, and responds up to 10,000 Hz (±5%) when stud mounted. Its ceramic shear element and titanium housing give high immunity to base strain, thermal transients, and transverse acceleration.
Four ranges: ±50, ±100, ±250, and ±500 g
Side connector: 10-32 neg., rugged for repeated connections
Two mounting styles: integral stud (S) or adhesive with ground isolation (A)
Low threshold: 0.00021 grms on the 50 g range

What does the 8776B measure?
The 8776B measures vibration acceleration in one axis. Its ceramic shear element gives high immunity to base strain, thermal transients, and transverse acceleration, and the internal impedance converter provides a low-impedance voltage output. That output runs over inexpensive coaxial cable with high noise immunity and insensitivity to cable motion. It can be powered by a Kistler coupler or signal conditioner, or any voltage mode piezoelectric sensor supply.
Family Type 8776B are low impedance, voltage mode accelerometers designed for vibration measurement in single or multi-channel applications. The unique side connector design is rugged and maintains excellent integrity with repeated connections. The ceramic sensing element components are carefully designed to provide the level of performance most often required in general purpose vibration measurements. The shear technology from Kistler assures high immunity to base strain, thermal transients, and transverse accelerations. Other outstanding features include high frequency response, lightweight and hermetic sealing up to full IP68 (10 bar) with an integral cable option. A low impedance voltage output is provided by the internal electronic impedance converter. This output allows for the use of an inexpensive coaxial cable, while providing high noise immunity and insensitivity to cable motion.
Why engineers pick it
Low noise for low-level measurement. Threshold is 0.00021 grms on the 50 g range and 0.00025 grms on the 100 g range (1 Hz … 10 kHz).
Wide bandwidth with integral stud. The S version covers 0.5 … 10,000 Hz (±5%) on the 50 and 100 g ranges and 1 … 10,000 Hz on 250 and 500 g, with resonance at 50 or 70 kHz.
Side connector for low profile. The side connector keeps the sensor low on the structure, and the rugged connector design holds up to repeated connections.
Ground isolation built in. The adhesive (A) version is ground isolated. The stud (S) version is ground isolated with an accessory.
A, adhesive: ground isolated, upper response 8,000 Hz (±5%) and 15,000 Hz (±10%)
Cable: connector version, or IP68 waterproof integral cable in a customer-specified length up to 20 m (SP).
How is the 8776B mounted?
Attach the sensor with the integral stud (S option), or with wax or adhesive (A option). When removing an adhesive-mounted sensor, keep adhesive strength at or below 600 psi; most adhesives can be weakened by heating or with a solvent. Optional accessories include adhesive mounting pad 8436, mounting magnet 8452A, and cube 8526 for adhesive mounting.
When is the 8776B the wrong choice?
Ranges above ±500 g. The 8776B tops out at ±500 g.
Maximum bandwidth with adhesive mounting. The adhesive version's upper response is 8,000 Hz (±5%), compared with 10,000 Hz for the integral stud version.
Temperatures above 248 °F (120 °C). The 50 and 100 g ranges are limited to 212 °F (100 °C) and the 250 g range to 230 °F (110 °C).
8776B FAQ
