What it is

The Equilam NA C.C.T is a cyclic corrosion test chamber for accelerated corrosion testing, built to reproduce the environmental cycles used in automotive, coatings, and materials qualification. A single chamber exposes samples to salt spray (salt fog), alternating wet and dry stages, and controlled temperature-and-humidity conditions, so a test can run the multi-step cycles that OEM and international standards specify, with results that closely resemble those from outdoor exposure. The C.C.T series uses a monoblock design, with the solution tank and the bubble tower (saturator) integrated into one unit, and is offered in five benchtop/floor sizes from 14.7 to 135 cu ft (415 to 3,840 L) plus walk-in sizes, with custom dimensions on request.

  • Accelerated cyclic corrosion and salt-spray testing
  • Salt spray (salt fog), alternating solution, dry-off, and warm saturated humidity stages in one chamber
  • Temperature vs. relative humidity control (CTH) for cyclic profiles
  • Monoblock construction: solution tank and bubble tower (saturator) integrated
  • Fiberglass construction (U.S. Patent 10,371,623)
  • Benchtop/floor sizes 14.7–135 cu ft (415–3,840 L); walk-in sizes available
  • Compliant with a broad range of automotive OEM, ISO, ASTM, JIS, and DIN standards
  • Assembled, maintained, and calibrated in the U.S.

What it is used for

The C.C.T chambers are built for accelerated corrosion testing that closely resembles outdoor exposure. Common uses include:

  • Automotive corrosion qualification — testing to OEM cyclic-corrosion specifications (VDA, GMW, Ford, VW, Volvo, Nissan, Toyota, Tesla, Jaguar, and others)
  • Coating and paint evaluation — assessing finishes under salt spray and cyclic wet/dry exposure
  • Materials and component corrosion testing — corrosion-resistance work to ISO, ASTM, JIS, and DIN methods
  • Continuous salt-fog testing — salt spray to ASTM B117 / ISO 9227
  • Cyclic corrosion profiles — combining salt application, humidity, and dry-off stages to correlate with field corrosion

Exposure conditions

Samples can be exposed to a range of conditions in one chamber, some optional:

  • Salt spray (salt fog) — ASTM B117, ISO 9227, JIS Z 2371, DIN 50021
  • Salt spray with alternate solution — ASTM B117, ISO 9227, JIS Z 2371, DIN 50021
  • Salt spray – Prohesion (optional)
  • Oscillating or fixed stress/spray (optional)
  • Immersion (optional)
  • Dry-off — injection of hot, dry air
  • Warm saturated humidity, condensed over samples — ISO 6270-2 CH, ASTM D2247
  • Warm saturated humidity (water fog) — ASTM D1735 (optional)
  • Temperature vs. relative humidity (CTH)
  • Others upon request

How it produces repeatable results

Equilam's design targets uniform, standard-compliant exposure:

  • Indirect heating through the air space. The chamber is heated indirectly through the surrounding air space; electric heating elements inside the test chamber are not used, which keeps the exposure uniform.
  • Fine-fog atomization. The atomizing nozzle produces a fine fog rather than droplets, operating on the Venturi principle per ASTM B117, with bubble-tower pressure setting the atomization flow.
  • Even fog distribution. Fog is distributed evenly from top to bottom, with a fog dispersion tower and cone recommended so atomization reaches the samples indirectly, as ASTM, ISO, and JIS standards require.
  • Monoblock design. The solution tank and the bubble tower (saturator) are integrated into a single unit.
  • Smooth, angled lid. The lid has a smooth internal finish and a 90–120° angle so condensate does not drip onto specimens and distort results.
  • Chamber-size homogeneity. Internal chambers smaller than 35.3 cu ft (1 m³) can cause undesirable effects in fog distribution, dry-off, temperature control, and specimen spacing; larger chambers hold conditions more uniformly.

Why engineers pick it

Standard-compliant exposure by design. Indirect air-space heating, Venturi fine-fog atomization to ASTM B117, and top-to-bottom fog distribution are built to meet the uniformity requirements of ASTM, ISO, and JIS methods.

One chamber runs the full cycle. Salt spray, alternating solution, dry-off, and warm saturated humidity stages combine so multi-step OEM cyclic profiles run in a single unit.

Corrosion-resistant fiberglass construction. The chambers feature fiberglass construction (U.S. Patent 10,371,623), suited to the salt and humidity of the test environment itself.

Broad standards coverage. Support spans automotive OEM specifications (VDA, GMW, Ford, VW, Volvo, Nissan, Toyota, Tesla, Jaguar, Scania, John Deere, Mercedes-Benz, Yamaha, Honda, BMW, Renault) plus ISO, ASTM, IEC, MIL-STD, SAE, and RTCA/DO-160E.

U.S. assembly, calibration, and support. Units are assembled, maintained, and calibrated in the U.S.

Utility and consumable requirements

Facilities planning needs three controlled inputs:

  • Salt / corrosive agent. Salt (NaCl) purity and undesirable-element limits must meet ASTM B117, ISO 9227, and JIS Z 2371 (Equilam CORRO SALT).
  • Water. Water must comply with ASTM D1193 Type IV (maximum 5 µS/cm); deionizers are recommended.
  • Compressed air. The compressed-air supply to the bubble tower (saturator) must be free of grease, oil, and dirt (filtered) and maintained at sufficient pressure at the base of the bubble tower.

Choosing a model and ordering

The C.C.T series spans five benchtop/floor sizes and five walk-in (W.C.C.T) sizes, with custom dimensions available on request. For test standards that call for a chamber volume of at least 35.3 cu ft (1 m³), choose the C.C.T 45-1200 or larger — the 15-450 and 28-810 sit below that volume. Walk-in models add wide door clearance for large parts and full assemblies.

Full dimensions and volumes are in the Specifications tab. Select the model that fits your test standard and specimen size, and configure your unit on this page. For a walk-in or custom chamber, optional exposure modes (Prohesion, immersion, oscillating spray), or help matching a specific OEM specification, contact W5 Engineering and we will scope and quote it with you.
