What it is
The EA-PS 9000 1U is a microprocessor-controlled programmable laboratory DC power supply in a 1U rack chassis just 44 mm (1.75 in) high. Its flexible, power-regulated autoranging output delivers full rated power across a wide voltage and current range, so one unit covers a broad set of operating points. The series comes in two power classes, 1500 W and 3000 W, spanning 0–80 V to 0–750 V and 0–6 A to 0–100 A, with a blue LCD control panel, remote sensing, and galvanically isolated analog and digital interfaces.

What it is used for
Some of the use cases for the PS 9000 1U include:
- Laboratory bench supply — a wide, autoranging voltage/current envelope from a single 1U unit for general development and test
- Automated test systems — remote control over USB or Ethernet with SCPI or ModBus RTU, plus LabVIEW VIs and EA Power Control
- Analog-controlled test setups — set and monitor voltage, current, and power through the isolated 0–5 V / 0–10 V analog interface
- Applications needing safe shutdown — 200 V and higher models include a discharge circuit that sinks the output below 60 V DC after switch-off
Power and autoranging
The output stage is autoranging: it provides a higher output voltage at lower output current, or a higher output current at lower output voltage, always limited to the adjustable power set value or the rated power. A single unit therefore covers a wide range of applications that a fixed-rating supply would need several instruments to address. Voltage, current, and power are each adjustable continuously between 0% and 100%, manually or under analog or digital remote control, and the DC output is located on the rear panel.
Protection and discharge
Independent thresholds can be set for overvoltage (OVP), overcurrent (OCP), and overpower (OPP); reaching any of them immediately shuts off the DC output and raises a status signal on the display and over the interfaces. An overtemperature protection shuts the output off if the device overheats. Models rated 200 V or higher include a discharge circuit that, under no-load or low-load conditions, sinks the output to below 60 V DC after switch-off, the limit considered safe for human contact.
Control and interfaces
The clearly arranged panel uses two rotary knobs, six pushbuttons, and two LEDs alongside an illuminated blue LCD that shows actual and set values, the control state (CV, CC, CP), status, and alarms; pushing a knob switches between decimal positions, and a panel lock guards against unintended changes. A galvanically isolated 15-pole D-Sub analog interface sets voltage, current, and power from 0–100% through 0–10 V or 0–5 V control signals and monitors output voltage and current, with additional status inputs and outputs. Two galvanically isolated digital interfaces, USB and Ethernet, control and monitor the unit with SCPI commands or the ModBus RTU protocol, driven by EA Power Control, a custom application, or LabVIEW VIs.
Why engineers pick it
One unit covers a wide envelope. The autoranging output holds full rated power across a broad voltage and current range rather than at one fixed operating point, so a single PS 9000 covers applications that would otherwise need several fixed-rating supplies.
Rack-dense at 1U. Full programmable-supply functionality in a 44 mm (1.75 in) chassis packs more test capacity into each rack.
Worldwide single-phase operation. Active PFC and a wide input let 1500 W models run on 100–264 V AC, with automatic output-power derating at low line rather than a hard cutoff.
Standard remote control. Isolated USB and Ethernet with SCPI and ModBus RTU, plus LabVIEW VIs and EA Power Control, drop the unit into automated test systems without add-on interface cards.
Configuring and scaling
The series resolves along power class and model.
- Power class sets the rating, 1500 W or 3000 W per unit.
- Model sets the voltage-and-current envelope, from 0–80 V / 0–50 A through 0–750 V / 0–6 A (1500 W) and 0–80 V / 0–100 A through 0–750 V / 0–12 A (3000 W). Each model carries its own ordering number.
For higher current, units connect in parallel through the Share Bus or the analog interface. Configure your PS 9000 on this page and buy it directly. For paralleled multi-unit setups or integration support, contact W5 Engineering.
