What it is

The LDS V555 is the lowest-force model in the LDS V555/V650/V721/V780 small electrodynamic shaker family, rated at 211 lbf (0.94 kN) sine force with a usable frequency range from DC to 6,300 Hz. It pairs a lightweight, high-performance armature with a lightweight suspension. Driven by the LDS LPA1000 linear amplifier and FPS field power supply, it delivers 100 gn sine acceleration and 59.1 in/s (1.50 m/s) velocity across 1.0 in (25.4 mm) of peak-to-peak displacement. The shaker operates vertically or horizontally.

  • Sine force: 211 lbf (0.94 kN) peak
  • Random force: 143 lbf (0.636 kN) rms
  • Half-sine shock force: 281 lbf (1.2 kN)
  • Acceleration: 100 gn sine peak; 69 gn random rms
  • Velocity: 59.1 in/s (1.50 m/s) sine peak
  • Displacement: 1.0 in (25.4 mm) peak-to-peak
  • Usable frequency range: DC to 6,300 Hz
  • Internal payload capacity: 55 lb (25 kg)
  • Recommended amplifier: LDS LPA1000 with LDS FPS field power supply

At a glance

211 lbf/0.94 kN sine force for compact DUT vibration checks

143 lbf/0.64 kN random force for light PSD screening

4.33"/110 mm armature suits small fixtures and sensors

1.0"/25.4 mm stroke, DC- 6.3 kHz for broad small-part testing

Sinusoidal

211 lbf — DC to 6,300 Hz

Swept-sine resonance search and dwell to 211 lbf (0.94 kN) peak and 100 gn, across the widest usable band in the V555/V650/V721/V780 family.

Random

143 lbf rms, 69 gn

Light PSD screening and qualification of circuit boards, sensors, and small assemblies to 143 lbf (0.636 kN) rms.

Shock / transient

Half-sine to 281 lbf

Two-millisecond half-sine pulses to 281 lbf (1.2 kN) with the standard payload, at 10% pre- and post-pulse.

What it is used for

Some of the use cases for the LDS V555 include:

  • Automotive component testing: sine and random vibration testing of small components.
  • Electronic assembly testing: vibration screening and qualification of circuit boards and small assemblies.
  • Modal and structural analysis: structural excitation with a wide usable frequency range from DC to 6,300 Hz.
  • Fatigue and resonance testing: resonance searches and dwells on lightweight test articles.
  • Velocity transducer or high-speed actuator: using the shaker itself as a transducer or fast actuator.
  • In-house testing and calibration: routine vibration checks and sensor calibration work.

Key features

  • Lightweight, high-performance armature: the 2.07 lb (0.94 kg) moving element delivers 100 gn sine acceleration and 59.1 in/s (1.50 m/s) velocity.
  • Robust, lightweight suspension: provides torsional and transverse stiffness with minimal impact on system acceleration.
  • Wide frequency range: armature resonance at 4,850 Hz and a usable range from DC to 6,300 Hz, the widest in the family.
  • Vertical and horizontal operation: trunnion-mounted for either test axis.
  • Compact, quiet amplifier: the rack-mount LPA1000 is a Class B linear amplifier with a signal-to-noise ratio above 95 dB and a sound power level of 49 dBA at 6.6 ft (2 m).
  • Armature interface: 4.33 in (110 mm) armature with one center insert and eight equispaced inserts on a 3.5 in (90 mm) pitch circle, in 1/4 UNF or M6.

Why engineers pick it

Bandwidth for small parts. A usable range from DC to 6,300 Hz reaches higher than any other shaker in the V555/V650/V721/V780 family.

Low-distortion drive. The LPA1000's Class B linear topology holds total harmonic distortion under 0.2% from 40 Hz to 5 kHz at rated output.

Bench-friendly footprint. The LPA1000 and FPS both mount in a standard 19 in rack, and the trunnion-mounted shaker fits within 19.1 × 22.9 × 11.8 in (485 × 582 × 300 mm).

Proven reliability. The family is built for maximum system availability.

The V555 system

  • LDS LPA1000 linear power amplifier: 961 VA rated output into 4.0 Ω (1,296 VA maximum), single-phase input of 100, 120, or 230 V.
  • LDS FPS field power supply: supplies DC power to the shaker's field and degauss coils and a switchable 0.75 kVA output for the cooling fan. The FPS is required when driving the V555 with the LPA1000.
  • Cooling fan: single-phase 230 V, 50 Hz, or single-phase 120 V / 230 V, 60 Hz.

The V555 can be driven by any suitable oscillator, amplifier, and field power supply combination. The LPA1000 with FPS is the combination specifically recommended.

Configuring and scaling

Select the V555 on this page and use Request Quote to start your system. Contact W5 for items the selector doesn't cover: armature insert thread (1/4 UNF or M6), 50 Hz or 60 Hz cooling fan, vibration controller, and fixturing.

For more force in the same family, the LDS V650 delivers up to 495 lbf (2.2 kN) sine force and carries 110 lb (50 kg) internal payload.
