What it is

The LDS V721 is a small electrodynamic shaker rated at 651 lbf (2.9 kN) sine force. It is the highest-force model in the LDS V555/V650/V721/V780 family that runs on the single-phase LDS LPA1000 linear amplifier with FPS field power supply. A 7.09 in (180 mm) armature carries up to 220 lb (100 kg) of internal payload over 1.0 in (25.4 mm) of peak-to-peak displacement, with a usable frequency range from DC to 4,000 Hz. The shaker operates vertically or horizontally.

  • Sine force: 651 lbf (2.9 kN) peak
  • Random force: 427 lbf (1.9 kN) rms
  • Half-sine shock force: 1,028 lbf (4.6 kN)
  • Acceleration: 66.3 gn sine peak; 44.9 gn random rms
  • Velocity: 27.6 in/s (0.70 m/s) sine peak
  • Displacement: 1.0 in (25.4 mm) peak-to-peak
  • Usable frequency range: DC to 4,000 Hz
  • Internal payload capacity: 220 lb (100 kg)
  • Recommended amplifier: LDS LPA1000 with LDS FPS field power supply

At a glance

652 lbf/2.9 kN sine force for flexible low-force qualification

427 lbf/1.9 kN random force for stronger light PSD coverage

7.09"/180 mm armature handles small-to-medium fixtures

1.0"/25.4 mm stroke, DC- 4 kHz for sweep and screening work

Sinusoidal

651 lbf — DC to 4,000 Hz

Swept-sine resonance search and dwell to 651 lbf (2.9 kN) peak and 66.3 gn, the most force available in the family without three-phase power.

Random

427 lbf rms, 44.9 gn

PSD screening and qualification of heavier electronic assemblies and components to 427 lbf (1.9 kN) rms.

Shock / transient

Half-sine to 1,028 lbf

Two-millisecond half-sine pulses to 1,028 lbf (4.6 kN), at 10% pre- and post-pulse with the standard payload.

What it is used for

Some of the use cases for the LDS V721 include:

  • Automotive component testing: sine and random vibration testing of components and small assemblies.
  • Electronic assembly testing: vibration screening and qualification of heavier electronic assemblies.
  • Modal and structural analysis: structural excitation across a usable range from DC to 4,000 Hz.
  • Fatigue and resonance testing: resonance searches and dwells on test articles up to 220 lb (100 kg).
  • Velocity transducer or high-speed actuator: using the shaker itself as a transducer or fast actuator.
  • In-house testing and calibration: routine vibration checks and calibration work.

Key features

  • Single-phase drive: the rack-mount LPA1000 and FPS run from 100, 120, or 230 V single-phase supplies.
  • High internal payload capacity: 220 lb (100 kg), four times the V555 and twice the V650.
  • Lightweight, high-performance armature: a 9.83 lb (4.46 kg) moving element on a 7.09 in (180 mm) armature.
  • Robust, lightweight suspension: provides torsional and transverse stiffness with minimal impact on system acceleration.
  • Vertical and horizontal operation: trunnion-mounted for either test axis.
  • Armature interface: one center insert and eight equispaced inserts on a 5.9 in (150 mm) pitch circle, in 3/8 UNF or M8.

Why engineers pick it

Most force without three-phase power. 651 lbf (2.9 kN) sine force from the LPA1000 + FPS, which run on 100, 120, or 230 V single-phase supplies.

Large armature for larger fixtures. The 7.09 in (180 mm) armature and 220 lb (100 kg) payload capacity handle bigger fixtures than the V555 or V650.

Low-distortion drive. The LPA1000's Class B linear topology holds total harmonic distortion under 0.2% from 40 Hz to 5 kHz at rated output, with a signal-to-noise ratio above 95 dB.

Proven reliability. The family is built for maximum system availability.

The V721 system

  • LDS LPA1000 linear power amplifier: 961 VA rated output into 4.0 Ω (1,296 VA maximum), single-phase input.
  • LDS FPS field power supply: field and degauss coil power and a switchable 0.75 kVA cooling fan output. It is required with the LPA1000.
  • Cooling fan: single-phase 230 V, 50 Hz, or single-phase 120 V / 230 V, 60 Hz.

The V721 can be driven by any suitable oscillator, amplifier, and field power supply combination. The LPA1000 with FPS is the combination specifically recommended.

Configuring and scaling

Select the V721 on this page and use Request Quote to start your system. Contact W5 for items the selector doesn't cover: armature insert thread (3/8 UNF or M8), 50 Hz or 60 Hz cooling fan, vibration controller, and fixturing.

For more force on the same size armature, the LDS V780 with the HPAK amplifier delivers 1,150 lbf (5.12 kN) sine force and 111 gn.
