What it is

The LDS V8800 is a medium-force electrodynamic shaker rated at 13,250 lbf (59.0 kN) sine force and 14,837 lbf (66.0 kN) random force on a 17.3 in (440 mm) armature. It builds on the LDS V8 and adds higher shock performance, energy savings in COOL mode, an intuitive touchscreen interface, preventive maintenance diagnostics, and an inductive centring system (ICS). It is driven by the LDS XPAK amplifier: the XPA64K for maximum sine and random performance, or the XPA88K for up to 39,340 lbf (175.0 kN) of half-sine shock force. The shaker delivers 3.0 in (76.2 mm) of displacement and 140 gn sine acceleration, and comes base-mounted, Lin-E-Air trunnion-mounted, or combo-mounted with a slip table.

  • Sine force: 13,250 lbf (59.0 kN) peak
  • Random force: 14,837 lbf (66.0 kN) rms
  • Half-sine shock force: 29,225 lbf (130.0 kN) with XPA64K; 39,340 lbf (175.0 kN) with XPA88K
  • Acceleration: 140.0 gn sine peak; 100.0 gn random rms
  • Velocity: 78.7 in/s (2.0 m/s) full field; 98.4 in/s (2.5 m/s) reduced field; 165.4 in/s (4.2 m/s) shock peak
  • Displacement: 3.0 in (76.2 mm) peak-to-peak
  • Usable frequency range: 5 Hz to 3,000 Hz
  • Internal load support: 1,540 lb (700 kg)
  • Required amplifier: LDS XPA64K or XPA88K

At a glance

13,250 lbf/59.0 kN sine force for demanding mid-force sine programs

14,837 lbf/66.0 kN random force for full-class random and PSD work

17.3"/440 mm armature for 1.3 kN·m overturning moment to steady offset payloads

3.0"/76.2 mm stroke, 5 Hz – 3 kHz for outstanding shock and low-frequency tests

Sinusoidal

13,250 lbf, 140 gn

Swept and dwell sine testing to 13,250 lbf (59.0 kN) at up to 140 gn, with 78.7 in/s (2.0 m/s) full field or 98.4 in/s (2.5 m/s) reduced field.

Random

14,837 lbf rms, 100 gn

PSD screening and qualification to 14,837 lbf (66.0 kN) rms and 100 gn rms, a higher rating than the shaker's own sine force.

Shock / transient

Half-sine to 39,340 lbf

Two-millisecond half-sine pulses to 39,340 lbf (175.0 kN) with the XPA88K, with shock velocity to 165.4 in/s (4.2 m/s).

What it is used for

Some of the use cases for the LDS V8800 include:

  • High-force random vibration testing: random profiles up to 14,837 lbf (66.0 kN) rms and 100 gn rms.
  • Classical shock testing: half-sine pulses up to 39,340 lbf (175.0 kN) with the XPA88K, with shock velocity to 165.4 in/s (4.2 m/s).
  • High-acceleration sine testing: swept and dwell testing at up to 140 gn.
  • Low-frequency, long-displacement testing: profiles that need 3.0 in (76.2 mm) of stroke and up to 98.4 in/s (2.5 m/s) in reduced-field mode.
  • Squeak and rattle testing: running in Quiet mode with the cooling fan switched off for short periods at low force.
  • Heavy payloads and horizontal testing: test articles up to 1,540 lb (700 kg) on the internal load support, or combo mounting with an LPT or HBT slip table.

Key features

  • Inductive centring system (ICS): increases system reliability.
  • Three operating modes: Standard, Quiet, and COOL. COOL mode monitors system parameters and cuts the power needed for a given test. Quiet mode runs with the fan off for short periods at low force.
  • Full-field and reduced-field operation: 78.7 in/s (2.0 m/s) full field, or 98.4 in/s (2.5 m/s) reduced field.
  • Inverter-driven cooling fan: fan speed is controlled automatically in COOL mode, or manually, to reduce power consumption and acoustic noise at lower test levels.
  • Touchscreen amplifier interface: displays interlocks, temperatures, voltage and current, power consumption, and power savings.
  • Built-in diagnostics: CAN bus monitoring from the shaker through the pneumatics control unit. Data is shown in real time and stored in the amplifier for preventive maintenance and fault detection.
  • Overturning moment restraint: 11,506 lbf·in (1,300 N·m).
  • Armature inserts: raised stainless-steel inserts in M8, M10, or 3/8 UNC.

Why engineers pick it

Shock capability beyond the V8. The XPA88K delivers 39,340 lbf (175.0 kN) of half-sine shock force and 165.4 in/s (4.2 m/s) shock velocity.

Random force above sine force. The V8800 is rated at 14,837 lbf (66.0 kN) random, higher than its 13,250 lbf (59.0 kN) sine rating.

Lower running costs. COOL mode and the inverter-driven fan reduce power consumption for tests below full force.

Easier to maintain. Continuous CAN bus monitoring and stored diagnostic data support preventive maintenance, and the inductive centring system adds reliability.

The V8800 system

  • LDS XPAK amplifier: XPA64K or XPA88K, with touchscreen interface and internal diagnostics.
  • Pneumatics control unit: emergency stop, Lin-E-Air and internal load support controls, and indicators for armature position and load support pressure.
  • Cooling fan: inverter-driven, with optional silencer or acoustic enclosure.
  • HBT slip table hydraulic unit: stand-alone pump for HBT slip tables. LPT slip tables carry their hydraulic supply inside the table.

Site requirements

  • Power: 3-phase, 380 to 480 V, 50/60 Hz. Total steady-state requirement for amplifier and fan is 80 kVA (Type B MCB) or 75 kVA (Type C MCB) with the XPA64K, and 95 kVA (Type B MCB) or 75 kVA (Type C MCB) with the XPA88K.
  • Compressed air: 100 psi (6.9 bar).
  • Ambient: shaker +45 to 86 °F (+7 to 30 °C); amplifier +41 to 86 °F (+5 to 30 °C).
  • Acoustics: 108 dBA shaker and 74 dBA amplifier at 3.3 ft (1 m). The cooling fan is 102 dBA, 99 dBA with a silencer, or below 80 dBA in an acoustic enclosure.
