Rugged Solar-Powered Data Acquisition System for Utility-Scale Tracker Validation

W5 Engineering developed a turnkey, solar-powered data acquisition (DAQ) solution for Nextracker to validate utility-scale solar tracker performance in extreme field environments. Facing the challenge of remote locations with no power infrastructure, W5 integrated DEWESoft KRYPTON hardware and FUTEK load cells into a self-sustaining, IP67-rated ecosystem. The system features a custom-engineered solar power architecture with MPPT charging and battery storage, ensuring 24/7 autonomous operation. By housing high-resolution sensors and a fanless industrial PC within a weather-resistant enclosure, W5 provided Nextracker with the ability to capture high-fidelity structural and load data without the need for grid power or generators—drastically accelerating their engineering validation cycles in the harshest environments on earth.
